Seems that the radio display problem is continuous with the Mountaineers so I'm posting this web site again:
www.shareamemory.com/radio.
No, I'm not getting any kickback from the guy that operates the site. It's just that my Mercury Dealership said, "Oh, about $300 but probably more like $450." Anyway, the radio removal tool can be purchased from the Wal Mart automotive radio section for about $7. The radio slips out in about 10 seconds flat. No wonder radio thieves come and go so fast. I spent a total of about $40 to repair the display. Radio Shack has the pencil thin solder, solder wick, and 30 amp solder iron. Takes about one hour to do the repair. Longer if you want to do a perfect job and touch up unrelated solder joints that look like they need it too. Easier to do under a magnifier and good lighting. The Instructions come with lots of photos. Anybody can do their own repair with those instructions and photos.
