Ignition switch/Neutral Saftey switch question
When you try to start the car, what happens when the ignition switch is bad? And what happens when the (PNP) Park Neutral Position Safety switch when it's bad.
Refer to this thread for more info about my dead car. |

try crossing the terminals with a screwdriver on the starter... it should turn over the car and start it.
and yes a N safety switch will cause your problem... try and take it in and out of different gears (try starting it in every gear WITH your foot on the brake lol)... and move the car back and forth while in gear and if it starts after what I just said then it could be the N safety switch or a bad contacts on the solinold for the starter.. if the contacts get corroded enough then they will not make contact with the starter to make the pinon gear engage the flywheel. |

o yeah there is a way to test the N safety switch... instead of just R&R'ing it like you did the starter... dissconect the Nuetral Safety Switch and take a test light and prob each terminal and have someone run it through the gears... test light should only light when in N and Park other then them two it shouldnt light up at all... if it does then its fub'rd and if it doesnt light up in any gears check if there is power to the wires. then double check the wiring going to the Switch and then replace the NSS.
or just bypass the switch by connectiong a wire to it and grounding it
