Question engine noise

have a 2.4 dual overhead cam engine that has developed an engineknock or rapping sound have gotten opinions on what its is from timing chain slapping , rod knock, bad lifter ,

i think it may be a bad lifter ,how do i go about finding what is really making the noise engine has 84,956 miles on it

Re: engine noise

unfortanely ur gonna have to get to the root of it. which usually mean tear it down and hope u find it. it could be one of everything you metioned or it could be a valve that needs to be tightened, but if i had to guess id say bad lifter.

Re: engine noise

I had a friend with the same problem. He decided to just drive it til it dies.

It never died.
