speeding

Can you be pulled over for doing 1 mile an hour over the speed limit? Or do tickets start at 5/10/15 miles over?

Re: speeding

You can technically be pulled over going 1km or mi over the speed limit. The limit is the limit. However, different locales have different laws about how fast you need to be going to get demerit points (demerit points are given folks, not taken away), here its 8km/h over, in Toronto its 14/km/h over.

Further, it depends on how you're driving, if traffic is all going 20 under the limit, and you're gunning around swerving and weaving at 1 over, you will get pulled over. If you're just keeping along with traffic, you'll be fine.

And tickets do not have boxes to check. There is a line, the cop writes in the number. For example, The cop gunned me at 74km/h in a 50, he put down 74, not 75. I am fighting this ticket, because no way in hell was I going 74 in a 50.

No one ever is.

But he is right you can get pulled over for going 1 over. But the example about gunning in and out of traffic, i dont think you would get pulled over for the 1 mph over. I think the wreckless driving would get you over the mph.

may sound hard to believe, but i really was not going 74. I am VERY careful in this area because there are always cops around, im never going more than 60ish. I got radared coming around a turn, and a guy passed me on the left side when I got flagged. I may have been going faster than 50, but not 74.

my other speeding ticket i admitted to going 100 in a 60 (not in a residential area). and the time i got pulled over for 80 in a 50 i admitted to going fast, but i didnt realize i was going that fast, and i was the dd, so i got off with a warning.

anyway, what i meant about gunning it through traffic, say for example everyone is going 45 in a 50, its trafficky, but not that bad. say you start weaving though cars and get to 51, theyll pull you over and knock you with speeding, hell yeah theyd knock you for speeding, maybe for reckless driving as well. but if everyone is going 51 in a 50, you CAN technically get a ticket, but i really doubt they would bother even pulling you over. unless they run your plate and you're wanted for murder. then meh, youre fucked.

it really all depends on how you're speeding, what the traffic is like, WHERE you're speeding (ie, school zone, no way youll get out of it) and the luck of the draw for a copper.
