Question squeaky belt

Hi Folks,

Recently, my serpintine belt ( or something else ) started making intermittent squeaks. This problem occurs when engine is idling. I thought it was the A/C compressor but still happens when its off. Next guess was the steering pump but I couldn't reproduce the noise when I turned the wheel.

Any... more diagnosis steps? had this problem? guesses?

Re: squeaky belt

There are two possibilities. First the serpentine belt could be going bad and needs replaced. The other item is the belt tensioner. The will start to squeak if the bearing is going out. You can replace the entire tensioner or just the pulley.

Thanks for the reply. Well I replaced the belt two years ago and checked it again, it seems to be OK. Also put the belt dressing, it didnt help.

Belt tensioner eh? Gotta give it a look when the weather isnt like a sauna.
