havng trouble starting 93 ford explorer

Explorer was parked for 2 years with the occasional start and then for the last 6-8 months with no sarting at all. Went to start it and it would turn over but it would not start.

Local mechanic replaced the fuel pump and it started just fine. Drove it for a couple of days with no problem. Then it sat for 3 weeks and when I tried to start it would turn over but it did not start. Like before.

Killed battery while I was trying to start it. Someone said the fuel filter might need to be replaced. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

First thing to check: Are you getting fuel?
Make sure that a critter didn't take up residence in the air intake. Are you getting spark?

If you keep letting the battery run down from sitting, it plain and simply may not be turning over fast enough... unless your fuel filter is plugged completely (and the guy that changed the pump _SHOULD_ have changed it then) then it should at least _try_ to start. If it's not even trying to start, then I suspect it's just not turning over fast enough.

And it's a good idea to put fuel stabilizer in the tank if it's just going to sit for more than a couple of weeks. Fuel, hummm, "weakens" in just about a month... Not to mention _VERY_ bad for injectors to just _sit_ as gas is what lubricates them.
