1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 Off Road (Lifted)

Wow, I havent built a model in awhile, huh? Oh well, heres my comeback... its based off the Revell 1999 Silverado CK 2WD Extended cab... but its going to be built into a modified Z71 equipped truck.

I remember seeing someone else build a Z71 Silverado. Does anyone know where I can get some Z71 Decals?

Also, what color do you think this would look good in? I'm thinking a dark metallic green?

Heres some mockup pics..

looks good so far! Dark green would be nice, but a gunmetal IMO would look great

Re: 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 Off Road (Lifted)

Green? Ugh...I hate dark metallic green. But you will make it look nice I am sure. Is it going to be 4WD at least? I remember there was a West Coast Customs lifted RWD tahoe or something. Oh, and dubs...WTF people!!!! Learn how to make something not look like a POS! UGH!!! Um...

What did you use for the suspension parts?
Is this getting a rollbar and the necessary off-roading equipment? Good luck the with rest of this:-D

Re: 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 Off Road (Lifted)

Yes. it is a 4x4. Not a 2wd. (Z71's only came in 4x4 anyways)

For suspension parts? Well, I custom built the IFS Crade using block some tubing.

Heres the skeleton of the cradle:

After the cradle was assembled, I used the kit supplied upper and lower control arms, and spindles, and used mostly recycled/kitbashed parts.

To extend the spindles, I put the rest of the shock tube from the PL GTO kit. I used a front differential housing from a Toyota Hilux, and used the PL GTO Half shafts. I used the stock tie-rod, just to be sure the suspension is the right width. Then i also used coil springs from the Revell Civic (Both front and rear, I trimmed them, and put two together to make one long one)

As for the rear end, I used the stock GM 12 Bolt, and rearched the leaf springs. I also added lift blocks, and made a new rear leaf hangers/shackles.

Re: 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 Off Road (Lifted)

Here are a few better pics.. Now I'll finally have a lifted truck from each of the big 3.

("Big Red" F-250, and "The Tow Truck" Dodge VTS) You can see them, if you search..

Heres the rear end:

Re: 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 Off Road (Lifted)

Heres some updates. I finally got the tires, wheels, and brakes mounted.

I realized the rear end sits a little low, compared to the front, so I'll have to level that out...
