Alternative suspension found, need advise and need reliable transmission control
Hey I am a first time forum user. I would like to say I love my passat and but the maintenance on the vechile is making me think twice about it, but I will stick by it until it does me in.
Hist 99 passat 1.8t with currently 105 km work that has been done is replacement of suspension arm and just had the rotors and brake pads replace on the front assembly. Problems. First to start my car is creaking up front and I have brought it into a VW dealership and they say that I need to have the front suspension replaced, thank god not immeditately but something by this early fall. They have quoted me with the cost of 1700 canadian and that is not with tax added on top, damn is all I can think. So I have sometime and I went on Ebay and I have found this AUDI A4 A6 PASSAT IMPROVED CONTROL ARM SUSPENSION KIT! 12 Piece KIT! 8 Control Arms 2 Tie Rods 2 Sway Bar Link. It works for 99 passat and is manufactured out of hamburg by MANUFACTURED IN GERMANY BY HAMBURG TECHNIC and they claim better beefier parts. The american distributor is FCP Groton, LLC out of connecticut USA. I need some advise before I purchase all these components and looking at the feedback for the seller they have been great for european car. However except there were none for Passats ans audi. Oh! and I have check with VW and they use a 10 pc susp system not a 12pc. But maybe the more the better. Onto the transmission control module, on the driver's console with the indicator where it shows the driving task PNRD. It is blocked out by a solid block. The Tiptronic no longer works, but it still drives it just revs high. It seems that the 5th gear is not engaged and when the car slows done below 20km the first gear catches and jolt the car(slightly), it is an indication that can get worst, but my concern is with the transmission, luckily it is in fine shape. But this lurching and catching also happens when switching gears from D to R. I have had them reset the module about a month ago(july) and now it has reappeared and the computer will not allow itself to be resetted. So it seemsthat I am in the hunt for this module but it needs to be specific module #. They have done the diagnostic and all it could say is that there is a fault, how general and they quote the part to be C$400. Any insight and suggestions will be seriously considered, thanks for all the help. |

Its depends what the fault was. If there is a faulty sensor in the transmission or a valve sticking than the computer will set a code for it. The trans will not shift proplerly if there is something not working properly.
