Flex- fuel

Is anyone had any experience with the flex fuel motors. I was getting about 17.5 mpg according to Computer with gas and I tried this E 85 since gas was 2.57 gallon and now the computer has been dropping and now it is at 12.9 mpg with half a tank left and 100 miles on the tank. I dont get what the point of the E 85 is if this is the results you get.

Anyone else have any encounters?

You won't get better mileage with e85...that's not what e85 is about. You should buy it so we aren't depending on overseas oil as much.

Notice the differences in mileage between Gas and E85.

I don't know if my 2000 NBS Yukon 5.3L is E85 compatible. Does anyone here know? www.fueleconomy.gov doesn't show Yukon's and Tahoe's as E85 capable until 2002. I thought my 2000 5.3L had the same motor as a 2002 5.3L

One way I think you can find out is on the gas door there is a sticker on mine that says either E85 or GAS. That website is kinda funny because its comparison is depending on gas being 2.29 gal and ethanol being 1.65 gal. Here Gas is 2.75 gal and ethanol is 2.09 gal. Its not worth it to me.

Yeah, it's not very current with the prices. I was mainly wanting to show you the difference in mpg not annual fuel cost.

I feel it's definately worth it. Even though I'm not some tree hugger, I hate seeing our dependancy on foreign oil keep increasing. Alternative fuels are our only way to start showing OPEC they can kiss our A$$.

The more people support E85, the better off we'll be. I'd buy it even if it was the same price.

I must admit, I don't have it readily available for me to use. I have used it in my wifes Envoy whenever we get a chance. I've sent several emails to the Missouri Corn Growers Association to try and get it in my area.

I didn't find a sticker on the fuel door, but I think I found my answer on GM's web site.

http://www.gm.com/company/gmability/..._vehicles.html

"All GM full-size SUVs and pickups equipped with the Vortec 5300 engine are E85-capable."
