98 Eclipse door locks backward
My daughters 98 Eclipse unlocks its doors when you put it in drive. It locks the doors when you put it in park and turn off the ignition. This seems backwards to me. Any ideas where to start looking ?

Does the car have the stock security system, an aftermarket security system, or no system at all?

Re: 98 Eclipse door locks backward
Yes, the locks work fine manually and yes it does have the factory security system- but that is unhooked. Or at least it hasn't worked since she has had the car. That's about 2 months. Thanks!!

Re: 98 Eclipse door locks backward
you can check by locking the door with the key. does the security light come on?
someone may have unhooked the system to put in an aftermarket system, then taken it out, and reversed the wires? not sure. i would take it to a dealer and se if you can get a favor. you never know... |

Re: Re: 98 Eclipse door locks backward
The security light stays on all the time. I suppose this would indicate that the problem is in the security system wouldn't it ?

The security light should only be on for the first 15 seconds after the car is locked. Then the light goes away, but the car is still secured. If the light is constantly on, it's trying to tell you that it's not working properly. I bet the previous owner thought he was a genius and tried to install a better alarm, got half way through realizing he was a dumbass, and left everything fucked up. This one might cost you a nice chunk of money to fix man.
