Re: 1983 mustang GT 2.3 turbo

I was not aware that the 2.3turbo mustang had such a wide spead of years 87-93 or were you refering to the 5.0 models.what years were the svo
mustangs available.this car is 4 cilender turbocharged non intercooled fuel injected 1983.
If at all possible does anyone know the horspower
of either the svo mustang or this car.

Re: 1983 mustang GT 2.3 turbo

This car had 145 hp. This turbo version was sold from '79 to '83 and is quite different from the SVO.

The SVO's had 165 - 200 hp depending on the transmission (auto's had less power) and the year.
The SVO engine was stronger internally and had EFI.
Are you sure yours is FI? My Chiltons says it's a carb.

The 83 GT Turbo was efi and had about 145 hp.

84-85 SVOs had 175 hp
85.5's had 205
86's 200
No SVO's came with autos.
Back to your GT turbo. Yes you can upgrade it. The skys the limit depending on your acess to cash. GO to www.turboford.org . It is a site dedicated to the 2.3 turbo. There are some guys there with over 500hp, one is running in the low 9's.

Ford put the 2.3t in many cars from 79-89

Carb turbo in Mustangs, Fairmounts, Zephyrs and Capris 79-80(Maybe even to 81)
Fuel Injected
83-88 Thunderbird Turbocoupe
84-86 Cougar
84-86 Mustang SVO
83-84 Mustang GT turbo
84-86 Capri
85-89 Merkur xr4ti
I could be off a year on some but it gives you an overveiw
The car you have is very rare it might be worth some money in the future but Americns are fascinated with their V8's so it's hard to speculate. Enjoy your new car.
