93 Skylark waterpump

I am having to work on my skylark myself can anyone tell me how to change the water pump and replace the S-Belt. I am mechanically inclined but this is new to me. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a serpantine belt tool. I can't work on mine much because my hands are just too damn big. My Mechanic told me he had to jack the engine up a bit to get to my water pump. Good luck is about the most I can say.

If this is the 3.3 V-6,removing the wheel will help a lot when replacing the water pump.

If you dont have a belt tensioner tool,a box wrench that is I think 18mm can be used.

You do so by placing the box end of the wrench on the tensioners bolt that is located in the center of the tensioners pulley.

You then take another wrench and use it as a handle by interlocking the two together,the open end and the box end are basically hooked together to make a handle.

Be sure to support the car on something other than a jack,jackstands or something very sturdy should be used.

It may be helpful to do part of the pump work from the side where the wheel would normally be.

When removing the pump,notice where the screws are longer at,I think some of the screws are longer in certain areas on the pump.

The removal is pretty straightforward.

Replacing the pump can be more difficult because of the lack of space.

Be sure to use a gasket sealer on the gasket when replacing the pump.

Also,be sure to enclose all of the bolt holes on the pump when applying the sealer.

Be careful when tightening the pump down onto the engine,the pump is aluminum and can be cracked.

When putting on the new pump,stagger the tightening of the bolts to make sure that the pump is seated on all sides.

After the pump is replaced,be sure and use locktite on the pumps pulley bolts.

If you dont,the pully will most likely come loose and may cause damage.

To replace the belt,loosen the engine mount that faces the same side as the water pump.

This engine mount is at the top of the engine and has two screws that have to be removed completely.

After removal of the screws,the engine will have to be lifted a small amount to get the belt between the two pieces of the mount.

After the belt is through the mount,you can replace the screws.

Or, It's not a bad idea to consider this job INSANE! And -->pay<-- a smart guy, or a professional to attempt it. I did mine, and I took off my power steering pump but not the lines, the alternator, the motor mount which is easy---1) put a board on a floor jack, jack up under the oil pan until snug, loosen the ONE nut located on the fenderwell, then the two bolts that you can only get to behind the wheel that go through the mount. :-)

shoot, then you want to remove the belt tensioner pulley. IT TURNS CLOCKWISE TO LOOSEN AND REMOVE THE BOLT. (reverse threads)
