98 528 Trunk Lock Failure Can't Open

1998 BMW 528 TRUNK WILL NOT OPEN ELECTRONICALLY, either by key remote or by the underdash switch. My rear seats do not fold down, SO I CAN'T ACCESS IT AT ALL. How can I manually access my trunk, as recommended in another thread?

This happend a few weeks ago and the problem fixed itself overnight. This became a pattern--truck lock failure in the afternoon, works in the morning. It would appear that the California heat is causing something to misfire which the cool nite air remedies. However, my trunk lock now seems to have permanently failed.

Any ideas?
