click clicking sound noise
Well, I've read about 1000 posts on noise, click, clunk, etc and haven't found any quite like my noise ...
here it is. When I first back out of the driveway I hear a SINGLE CLICK sound from the passenger front side. I cant tell if its from the wheelwell or closer to the front differential. I've heard the sound only 3 or 4 times when taking off forward, in drive. However, it happens about 6-out-of-10 times in reverse. The sound doesn't sound "rotational" and is only a SINGLE CLICK. It's more of a "click" than a "clunk". I've also pushed up-and-down on the fender thinking maybe it was the shock but I couldn't reproduce. I spent time under the truck today and couldn't get it to reproduce the click. I keep the front end greased myself. CV JOINTS ARE CLEAN, DRY, AND NO CRACKS. U-joint feels tight, no play. Stabilizer bar, links appear okay. All bushings appear okay - old, but not failing. Also, where the hell are the engine mounts and tranny mounts? I can't see any thing with all the 4WD stuff in the way!! Grrr !! Any ideas? |

Yea, the hoodwasher has been replaced and the click sound is different than the hoodwasher sound.
Tranny mount appears to be good, not cracked, no play, rubber has not broken away from the metal. I re-read the service bulletin on driveline lash http://www.zr2.com/images/frequently...clunk_memo.gif which COULD possibly be my problem however, I still don't hear the sound as a clunk or a pop ... its a loud, metallic, click! I can't see or touch my @#!$%$ engine mounts well enough to check their condition. It's almost like the "little, normal, direction-changing, lurch" that you feel when you shift from Park to Reverse is causing something to rub, or catch, or something!! Yesterday, I re-greased upper and lower ball joints (even though they were done a month ago!). I also hit the hex-slot that the torsion bar passes through with some white grease. None of that helped. Any other ideas? (leave it til it gets worse, I know! haha!) Quote:
