Re: scraping noise on low AC setting

Is this something you hear inside the suv? Is the noise coming from near the glovebox?

Or is the noise coming from the engine compartment?

I've had the same noise in mine ('01 YXL) for a couple of years. Under the glove box, inside. Replaced the compressor and fan motor and still have it. Sort of a scraping, gas leaking type noise. A/C works fine.

Exclamation Re: scraping noise on low AC setting

All:

I've had that metal scraping sound on my '02 Yukon about 2 years ago. After Gerry Lane GMC (Baton Rouge, LA) looked at it (nothing found), Capitol GMC (Baton Rouge, LA) looked at it (nothing found), I went to Don Bohn (Marrero, LA) where the guys there are better about troubleshooting. The service manager I ALWAYS talk with had his techs take the entire system apart, after I made the noise come back for them to hear. After two days, they found that GM had a revised AC compressor for my model SUV. My Yukon was @ just under 36K miles when this problem surfaced. GM shipped a new AC compressor, and have had no problems since. My yukon now has 90K miles on it.

If anyone is currently experiencing this, have a GM service center take the system down, change the orfice tube filter, and change the AC compressor. That's what's been done on my truck. Happy to report that I've had no problems since!

Just my two cents!

Re: scraping noise on low AC setting

Ok, I know this doesn't sound as technical as the rest of your replies...But have you tried looking behind the dash or behind the glove box for something that MAY have fallen back there..ie: a piece of paper or something. The only reason I say that is that b.c..as silly as it sounds, it happened to me.....hahaha

Re: scraping noise on low AC setting

light... I thought I had something drop, and also thought the blower had an issue, but the service manager @ Don Bohn (Marrero, LA) found that there was a revision on the compressor. GM should have this listed in their TSB by now. At least Don Bohn has seen quite a few '02 models with this same issue. I hadn't had problems since.
