Alright, here goes. First post. I've been reading and searching and although I found similar problems, I haven't seen the exact combination of problems I'm having.
I have a 2000 Jimmy SLT with ~78K miles. Withing the past week my fuel gauge went from erratic to completely dead (in the empty position). And just today as soon as I started the truck it idled like crap for 30 seconds or so and then the rpms went up to 2000 all by itself while still in park. Soon after the SES light came on. Couple minutes of idling and revving it up got it to run smoothly but SES light is still on. Can anyone help? Are the 2 problems connected? I'm not mechanically inclined and short on cash so I'm hoping **please, please** that it's not an expensive fix. Forgot to add: The dealer where I bought it from had to change the ignition switch about a week after I bought it (2 yrs ago). Don't know if that helps anyone. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Fuel Gauge and SES light
Hey, take the truck to autozone (if there are any around) and have them read the codes. They can tell you what they are, if they are connected, and how much it may run for parts. Autozone pulls codes free of charge, so it saves you $40+ (always a good thing). If it is running good now there is a chance, a small chance that the light just needs time to go out. I had one come on and stay for 3 days, went to get it checked and it went out on the way to autozone, and has stayed out. Without knowing what triggered the codes, I don't know where to start.

Thanks, I will give the light a chance to go away and report back after I take it to Autozone. |

Re: Re: Re: Fuel Gauge and SES light
The codes are stored so you can read what it was even after it's out.
The rough idle could be a number of things and could be connected to the high revving. Maybe the IAC. Get the codes. |
