91 Civic code question

G'day,
After a great deal of problems trying to figure out what's wrong with my old Civic, I finally read in an old post here that the little blinky light under the passenger's feet is supposed to give a single "hi there, I work" blink when the key is turned to on. Mine doesn't.
What am I looking at here, new computer?
Is it possible that I've just rattled a wire loose in the pothole ridden roads up here?
The poor old girl just cranks and cranks, no spark. Coil & igniter didn't appear to be the problem so after much reading I came across reference to the single hello blink that the 'puter is supposed to be giving which I hadn't been told about before. I was just looking for codes coming out without really watching closely when turning the key on.
Am I looking at a toasted computer or is there somewhere I should be looking for wiring troubles???
