Employee discount GOT me!

Now proud (but terminally in debt) owner of 2005 Silverado Z-71 and it went somthing like this:
I just traded in a 1990 K1500 Scottsdale w/350 140K miles, in good condition but needing an intake man. gasket and at least valve stem seals ( used a quart every 200 miles) and got 2,500 for it. I bought a 2005 Silverado Z-71 at the employee price of 25,845 which included the 3K financing rebate. The invoice was 29,634 and MSRP was 33,918. The dealer sticker price was $36,413 (yeah, sure). I got the exact truck, first choice of several I had paperwork on, and had the VIN's from Chev's web site vehicle locator. They were rather bothered by the paperwork I had brought, of stuff I had chased down on Chevs website vehicle locator. After all was said and done they asked to keep it all to show the dealership owner. They wouldn't even talk about anything less that the employee discount. I found that to be true at a couple dealerships I had talked to. I guess it is hard to argue it when you know you are already below the invoice price. You may get a deal though on some dealer installed options like bed liners and such at their cost. The new Z-71 is like driving the space shuttle compared to my old '90 Scotty!! Remember, a Chevrolet is better than no lay at all!

Re: Employee discount GOT me!

I picked up my 05 Silverado LT 2wd 5.3L Crew Cab, for about $1300 less than employee pricing and $3k rebate. guess the dealership really wanted to sell something. All but 1 dealer locally was willing to go less than employee pricing. sweet deal

Re: Employee discount GOT me!

I setlled on a GM certified (used) silverado recently. I found the dealerships around here to be "shifty" with the employee discount thing. Sure the $3k rebate was good, but then add options, warranty, bedliner, underbody spray (yeah right) then they would be back up to around regular price.
I thinks its all marketing mumbo jumbo. I would hate to be an employee and realize that you now get same treatment as average joe coming in to buy a vehicle I am already hearing about "dealer pricing" where they show you the invoice and what they actually paid for the truck. I was LMAO.

Re: Employee discount GOT me!

Called and talked to the finance guy at the dealer yesterday and he said on paper they loose money. And then I said why are you still in business? His reply, "That is only what we show you..."

Same bullshit different flavor/day!

Re: Re: Employee discount GOT me!

From what I've been told the dealership still gets 2-3% kickback for every vehicle they sell, plus 5% more if they sell so many vehicles a year. that's at least $400 on most vehicles for the initial kickback. they are still making money, not as easy as before, but they are making it up in volume

Re: Employee discount GOT me!

I found out recently that these lowball prices are made up through the dealers "FINANCE" programs where they earn an extra 5-20%. I was preapproved with a bank draft ready to write a check at a dealer and they were trying to get me to use their financing. It got ugly at one point in the dealership in front of everybody.

Its all about the financing

Hanibal - it always has been about the financing. The GMAC rebate is for a higher interest rate loan. and there is a finder's fee attached to it - just like any other loan program. The dealers make alot more than $400 on a vehicle - alot more.
