Would you prefer a 5 speed manual or an automatic?

Hi, I have a 1996 geo metro 1.3 L auto and have the opportunity of buying a 1995 geo metro 1.0 L manual and was wondering if a 5 speed would give me more troubles down the line and if people prefer manual over automatic, thanks.

Re: Would you prefer a 5 speed manual or an automatic?

I hav driven manual trannies for years. They usually get better gas miliage and I figure there is less to go wrong on them, but this metro I bought was an auto. I know I lose in miles but I got tired of the clutch and for me I don't mind the loss so much. I still get pretty good miliage and I don't work so hard anymore in heavy traffic. Some times you reach an age when little things like that mean alot.

Re: Would you prefer a 5 speed manual or an automatic?

Serenity is right. I have owned both and they do have their pros and cons. The manuals get better mileage but the auto is easy in the city. I currently have a 95 and 96. Both are 1.3 auto hatchbacks. My wife hated Metros until she got stuck driving the 95. Now that I have the 96 up and running, I was going to sell it but she said no. I think she has more of an attachment to the Metros now then I do.

Thanks to you both for your replies, the automatic is nice during the winter but when summer comes, I feel in the mood to be able to shift. I'm still trying to decide whether the manual will suite me best. Thanks

I have driven both an automatic and a manual, and at the age of 17,i think i will never switch back to an automatic transmission. I have both an automatic 96 metro and a manual 96 metro, grant it i love them both, but i just love the feel of shifting, and getting to pick what gear and when. but yeah i use the auto metro if i am ever gonna have to be doing stop and go traffic, cuz a stick is a bitch then especially if youa re on a hill. But still the final verdict is that i Love A Manual Transmission

At 17 I would have perfered the manual as well. However at closer to 50 I sing a different tune.

I always prefer a manual, but still being 16 of course I'm going to want that really involved with my driving racey feel. I'm secretly a pro race car driver, I swear...
