1999 contour trans/speedo problem

Hey new to the board and any help is greatly apreciated. My old man has a 1999 Ford Contour but he dosent know how to use the computer so here i am trying to figure out whats wrong with his car.

Ok so here is the situation, the car was running just fine but then for the past two weeks the transmission was acting a little funny. A little slipping between first and second. Then on the trip from CT to NY on interstate 84, he is going about 80 and then the O/D OFF light starts flashing and about 5 miles later the Spedometer and Odometer stop working, they just died. He stoped at a rest area, checked the tranny fluid, its low. He drives to an auto zone, barely making it there and grabs some fluid. it turns out the tranny is 2 quarts low. The transmission is still bucking and slipping really bad. The spedometer and Odometer is still dead and overdrive dosent work anymore. Any ideas???
