Transmission help
I have a saginaw 3 speed and I need to know whether it came out of a car or truck.
I found some codes: Driver side: GM 16 63952845 A300 (it looks like there are 2 more numbers but it's too far gone to tell) Passenger side: GM 20 39256470 C120 54 GM 3860042 I did some searching but I only found one site that helped and it was kind of vague and difficult to understand but I'm under the impression that it's out of a Camaro. Anyone have any idea how I can find out? |

Saginaw 3 speeds were used in a number of applications and probably did come with your car,,they also have a cast Iron 4 speed saginaw trans it all depends on how the car was ordered ,,you can look up transmission Identifications codes for your car in a google search,,,just type in transmission identification for your year and model car.

Re: Transmission help
Ok I thought of an easy way to identify a truck tranny from a car tranny, This might not always work as someone could swap a bearing retainer but if you measure the bearing retainer trucks are 5 1/8" cars are 4 5/8" this is what fits into the round opening of the bellhousing.
