ashtray/lighter assembly removal

My cig lighter assembly came out. Does anyone know how to remove the trim pieces for the cigarette lighter/ashtray assembly, or have pics showing the removal process? Thanks

Perhaps the year of car would help? There's been a lot of changes in the past 19 years.

Sorry - first post - the year is 1996 with a floor console for the shifter.
