Subs ruining an amp?
I have been searching all over for infomration as I put my stereo back in my car (been a while since the last one was ripped off) and found some people saying not to mount the amp on the speaker box because the vibrations will eventually kill the amp... I have my amp mounted on the back of my seats and my speaker box pointing at them as I get better sound that way... is this bad for them? Should I be shielding them somehow?
They are fosgates with some pretty heavy metal covers... |

Re: Subs ruining an amp?
Have you ever watched Unique Whips on Speed channel? The head installer there usually mounts the JL Audio amp on top the the box with JL subs. You know those things hit hard, so i'm sure it's fine to mount amps on subs.

Yeah that is what i was told and I had them that way for a long time, but for whatever reason they sounded pretty bad that way. Dunno if it rattled the trunk lid more or what but it was not good full bass, it seemed harsh and hollow.
I turned them around and it filled in nicely... who knows... I have to work on my surrounds though, maybe after I patch them up it will be better. |

Re: Subs ruining an amp?
I've mounted amps on both the back seats and the sub enclosure for years. Never had a problem either way. You should be fine.

Re: Subs ruining an amp?
It will depend on the amp you have, if you have some POS walmart brand amp then i wouldn't put it ontop of your box because yes, it will rattle itself to pieces. But if it's anything decent then you wont have any problems. I've been working in the stereo business for almost 3 years, and i've never once had a customer complain about an amp dying from vibrations.

Re: Subs ruining an amp?
if the box is built right, it shouldn't vibrate any more than any other part of the car

Re: Subs ruining an amp?
Dude i have installed amps, on sub boxes, between subs on the box, upside down in a trunk and ive never had a problem. In my friend car we installed the amp in the sub box. Fine tuned the amp outside the box then removed the front panel and mounted it to that. No leaks, still works box is over 6 months old. Yes i know this chages the specs of the box, he bought the solobarics from some dude, i helped him build the box that he wanted, and he wanted it to fit right in the back of his blazer. But it worked. pretty damn nice to.

Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota. Cardomain |
