Over heating Contour, any ideas...???
OK, here's the quick version:
A few weeks ago my water pump went and the car overheated. Had that replaced but it didn't solve the problem, though the pump was definately gone (stupid things are plastic, and I saw the many pieces). Had a new thermostat put in and a new coolant sensor, that brough it under control for the most part. However, it still runs very hot, as in at or above the "L" in normal, but it doesn't get into the red (but I am sure a long enough city drive and it would)... Now, on a side note I am pretty sure my heater core is going as I can often smell coolant, but I also don't knwo if that is simply cause it is getting so hot and I am smellnig it from there. I can smell it when I turn on my vents, but I don't get the telltale mist on my window? Help!!! Thanks! Jeff S |

My wife and i both have countour
![]() your in luck ... she had that problem for a will ... in the mean time i by passed the fans and they are always on ...for now ... the problem is, when you are looking at the car from the front looking down on the radiator right bottom of the fans you will notice a two wire plug ... that looks like it plugs into the radiator ... this is what they call the fan temp relay... so like a dumy i when out to buy it... turns out it's a dealer only part go figure ... still did not fix the problem till i figured that one of the two wires was burned out .... so here it is check to make sure there is no burn or corrusion on the plug and wires ... if both of these are good then you need to change the temp relay P.S. it's a bitch to do took me 3 - 4 hours you need to take out the fan assembly and you will find it on the bottom of the assembly can't miss it looks like a sceare peace with holes and a ressister like component in the center ... any ways this should work for you ... none of the sencor activate the fans ... the only reason the car does not burn in the red is because the ECU send a signal to the fans at high temp. last if the wires are burned or curruded, you can use regular clips i will try to get a picture for you here you go but you should use the yellow ones http://www.radioshack.com/images/Pro...64/64-3134.jpg good luck and tell me you outcome later Nikos |
