Lightbulb New Impala V8

I just saw the new 2006 impala on the gm website. If you buy the ss it comes with the 5.3L V8. I dont know if they are rear wheel drive but they should be. A fwd with a V8 sounds like crap. Its not a small engine like the taurus SHO but the same engine they put in 1500's!

Re: New Impala V8

It's still FWD. I saw a show version at the Brickyard 400 over the weekend. Nice looking car. But can't live with the FWD.

The engine in the Impala is all AL vs a cast iron block for the trucks I believe.

I also believe its still FWD. I have my doubts about Chevrolet releasing or re-releasing a RWD car other than the Corvette and maybe the Camero. The old school at Chevrolet and maybe even GM has left the building, and probably won't come back.

Re: New Impala V8

I can assure that is it FWD since I looked under the hood.

Don't give up on GM yet though guys. You will notice that Caddy is coming back wiht all RWD cars right now. It won't be long before these kinds of cars trickle back down to the Chevys.

I will tell you this though. I saw a report about every new GM car/truck having the blue square GM logo on it somewhere. This a requirement now. My guess is that within 5 years, 10 at the most, there will be now Chevrolet, Buick or Cadillac left. There will only be the GM Corvette, the GM Pickup, the GM Impala.

Maybe someone at GM has had a change of heart (or mind!), but I have seen NOTHING from Chevrolet to indicate that they want to take back the full-size car market from Ford, or even any segment of the RWD market.

Sorry, but I'm just so damn discouraged.

There was going to be a RWD Chevy 4-door in ‘07 or ‘08, but GM cancelled the program so there won’t be any RWD 4-door Chevys till 2010 or 2011. There may be a new Camaro in ‘09.

If you want 4-door RWD car with a V8 without paying $50,000 your going to have to buy a Chrysler 300C, Dodge Magnum or Charger.

ya i just hope GM does take back its full size market and anything else it lost even though none of the brands will make cars like they used to in the 80's or earlier (some may agree some may not)

Sorry, it is not GM, but some Chrysler crap. Its fine that Chrysler is returning to RWD and big engines, but it is still Chrysler - full of electronic shits. I had a concorde, never more.
