93 has a tick

my 1993 crown vic police interceptor has a tick when i first start her up in the morning.it only last for 5 to 10 mins and then goes away.it also does it when i havent driven her after a couple hrs.i tried using a heavier weight oil (20w50) and it seemed to help a little,but didnt fix it,any suggestions????? its a 4.6 by the way,im sure u knew,thanks

Sounds like you may have a clogged oil passage somewhere or there used to be a problem with the lash adjusters coming out. Take the valve cover off on the side where the tick is and see if any spare parts are laying there!
Get the 20/50 out of there - it will kill the Mod V8. The oiling passages are very tight and it needs the thin oil to get thru them when cold. Ask any Ford Technician.

omg that thick of oil no wonder it helped its so thick it probly dampened the sound but yea get it out of there the thickist i would use wouldbe 10w40

What kind of oil filter are you using? We have run into a few brands that do not have an anti-siphon valve in them and cause this noise.
