rav4 inside electrical went out

i was driving my rav4 (1998) and i tried to adjust the steering wheel height. when i pulled the lever down that allows you to move the steering wheel, all of the inside electrical systems shut off.

the blinkers and windows don't work. the a/c won't work. the cd player turned off(and won't turn back on). the dash lights work, but the speedometer and rpm-ometer just sit at zero. the headlights work and it drives just like normal, but everything on the inside just quit.

does anyone know how to fix this??
