Horsepower ?
Okay, i put an 84 monte carlo 305 motor and trans in my 88 camaro. here are my additions as well as subtractions from my 305.
Ive added headers High risee performer intake new 600 cfm carb. gear drive (truer timing) subtracted: Catalytic converter both the a/c compresser and smog pump (less drag) so how much HP do you all think im at right now ? my guess is probably around 220-230, because i think i started out probably near 170. but ive been told told that the 84 monte came stock with a 305 that only produced 140 horses. I cant believe that. Anyways, Its not a High output motor either. just a stock 305 plus what i done to it. if any of you all know anything bout HP, please help me !!! all the best, Marcus R.

was it an ss you pulled it from?? if not, yeah, you might only have 170 now...maybe 180. if it was an ss motor, your first guess was right

The SS motor (L69), had different heads, cam. intake and carb than the regular 305. It had 180 HP stock. new intake, carb, headers with all the emmissions removed might bring you 25-35 HP. Go for new cam and get another 25. Check the Tech articals on www.montecarloss.com

tim1950...the amazing thing about the HO and stock, is they both used the same heads and intake, jsut a bigger cam with more duration. i think the valves are even the same size.

No, the L69 had camaro crossfire heads and an aluminum intake.

hey i got that car too!!
86 z 305 performer intake,(edelbrock) 600cfm (holley) thru out the ac n smog pump and i had one scare the crap outta ya car. but i blew da heads and gotta 350 crate pace makers and nos love thy tranny n gears (373) p.s. bet ya can berry the 145 speedo and thats what counts
