Question 2001 gtp - is keyless entry standard option?

I just bought a 01 gtp. It didn't come with remotes, so I bought two. After reading through many previous forums on how to program, I never could get it to work. Then I looked under the trunk lid and I don't see the AU0 RPO code (I'm looking at the sticker that says "Service Parts Identification"). Is this not a standard option for gtp??

If not, how can I get this option installed?

Re: 2001 gtp - is keyless entry standard option?

The GTP is a premium car over the GT models so I would almost bet my money that Keyless entry was an option.

Since you said you tried the steps provided on the forum, there are two possibilities: 1) Wrong Remotes 2) Bad Remotes

1) Wrong Remote

There are many different keyless entry remotes out there for GM. They look the same, but obviously the transmitters or something are different.

What I would do is call a Pontiac (or any GM) dealer and say that you need a new keyless entry remote. Give them your VIN number (more accurate) or Year/Make/Model and see if "they have it in stock." If they do, then get the part number "so they don't have to look it up when you get there." Hang up, get back online and go to http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ and put that GM part number in.

I found a 01' GP remote and took that part number into gmpartsdirect and it was only like $20.

2) Bad Remote

IF you bought it off of eBay, you may have bought a used/defective one. If that is the case, try to get your money back or leave them poor feedback. You have no idea why they are selling used keyfobs on eBay in the first place . You usually keep them until they go bad or give the fob to the next owner.

If from a dealer, try to take it back for the right/functioning remote if possible.

Re: 2001 gtp - is keyless entry standard option?

I have a '99 GTP, and remote keyless entry is a standard option on the '99s, so I'd assume it would be on newer models, too. It wasn't on the '97 GTP, I think '99 was the year it became a standard GTP option.

If I knew what happened to them, I've got about three extra GTP remotes floating around somewhere, I'd offer you one if I could find them. I've had 2 GTP's with RKE and still have all the remotes from both of them. Just not sure what I did with all of 'em.

I was gonna say...I'd be really surprised if this car did not have keyless entry. It has every other option available.

I did buy the remotes off of ebay (dealer wanted $115 each!), but they were brand new in the gm plastic package. I even tried switching out batteries, just in case.

But maybe you're right...I may have the wrong remotes. I'll give gm a call, like you said, and see what I find out.

Thanks for the input!

GTPgirl - if you happen to find a remote or two within the next couple days, let me know. In the mean time, I'll see if I can figure out if I have the wrong ones. thanx

Re: 2001 gtp - is keyless entry standard option?

I highly doubt GTPGirl's keyless remotes will work on your model.

http://www.autotechs.com/items/item1083.htm - This one will work for that particular years models.

http://www.autotechs.com/items/item456.htm

That is the one for my Grand Prix and I believe GTPGirl's as well. See how the part numbers and applicable model years are different.

I shouldn't have trashed eBay that bad. I just saw a sample of MY remote models and they were obviously used. EBay is a good source if you have the right seller. Most will allow a refund, so I would try that route if it was the wrong part.

Did you ever find out what was going on with this?

Re: 2001 gtp - is keyless entry standard option?

I bought a 97 Regal Gs from a Saturn dealer...It was missing the remote..they tried to program a generic GM remote and it didnt work...then they ordered another one (maybe from E-Bay) and that didnt work either...The only one that would work was the one from the dealer...At this point they were pissed cause they had to bite the bullet and pay over $100 for the part, but it worked...

Re: 2001 gtp - is keyless entry standard option?

They must have changed remotes in '00 or '01 then. I know my '97 and my '99 use the same ones, they have the same numbers on the remotes.

At any rate, I never found those extras I had floating around...just moved into a new house a few months ago, and still haven't really got everything sorted out yet. But looks like it wouldn't have helped anyway

I called the dealer and got a part number. It was different than the part number listed on the remotes I bought. The guy I bought them from doesn't have the ones I need, but he has a friend who sold me 2 for $12. I'm just going to list the ones that don't work on my car on ebay.

So hopefully these other ones will work when I get them!

When you get them, here are the instructions:
