2000 2.5RS Questions
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and hopefully will be new to the Subaru Family.
I'm about to sell my current car and I'm seriously looking at a 2000 2.5RS that is in excellent condition. It has 60k miles on it and has an aftermarket cat-back exhaust. The car was bought, serviced, and traded back to the same dealer. I am just a little bit nervous about purchasing this car due to the fact that I know nothing about Subaru's. Are there any common problems with the 2.5RS that I should be looking for? If all is well with this car I will most definetly buy it if everything works out well. EDIT: This is the Sedan version. And of course I had to jump into a WRX just to compare them....maybe after college I'll upgrade ![]() Thanks, DF |

Re: 2000 2.5RS Questions
In general, Subaru's have an excellent reliability track record that can only be rivaled by Toyota's and Honda's. I can't speak for this particular RS, but if you want some reliability info, your best bet is Consumer Reports Auto Edition. It breaks down problem spots for different sections of the car for the past several years. RS's are pretty stellar in all aspects.

Re: 2000 2.5RS Questions
At 60k, make sure that the timing belt is done prior to purchase. Other than that, they are very reliable. I had a 99 2.5RS prior to the STi, and the only problem I ever had with it was a timing belt tensioner.

Re: 2000 2.5RS Questions
Subaru's reliability is right up there with Toyota, Honda, and BMW. If the car was obviously taken care of, then you have nothing to worry about.

Re: 2000 2.5RS Questions
Subies are really reliable, I do know that my uncles buddy blew either his main bearing or master cylinder, from driving to hard. That goes to show how close attention I pay.
