Pics of my Cobalt.

Had her a little over a month now. She's got about 4,200 miles...I've been doing a lot of driving . This is my first post in this forum, as I usually hang out in the racing and muscle car forums. Hope you like her.

Re: Pics of my Cobalt.

No, as you can see from the pics above your post my car is in no way "totalled."

I did it cause I figured it'd be fun to smash my car into a dirt mound and go through 2 months of agony trying to get it repaired...

Seriously though, it happend cause my ABS failed to work on hard braking causing my tired to lock up. I didnt have any time to try and correct the skid(which was a straight skid) so I ran off the road and hit the mound.

I was cruising up a curvey mountain road at a good clip when it dead ended into a circle. I hit the brakes hard and instead of the ABS kicking on the tires just locked up for 20 feet or so. I would have modulated the brakes manually but they always say to never pump an ABS system if it locks up. You're supposed to let it work it self out. Well, mine never did, causing me to jump a curb at about 8-10 mph and land on the mound. As you can see from the photos the landing was fairly soft, but the rocks did a fair amount of damage. $3500 total.

For any other SS owners out there, be wary of your ABS system, do not trust it. I've talked with some other SS owners and they complain of the same ABS locking problem. As a matter of fact i'd be a good idea for all of you Cobalt (base models as well) owners to find an empty peice of pavement some where, get up to 30 mph or so and mash your brakes as hard as you can. If you leave solid tires patches with no ABS modulation you should probably complain to your dealer/GM corporate. I have a funny feeling GM has some faulty equipment in these cars that could get a lot of people hurt.

Just make sure your test area is empty and safe. A big parking lot late at night should do nicely.
