92 rs 3.1 idle problems

I just aquired a 92 rs with a 3.1 in it and im trying to get it running decent again. Im currently having a problem with the idle. it idles around 1200 rpm and 1000rpm in drive. i know this is way too high. Heres what ive done thus far. Ive replace the tps the iac and the map sensors. took off the throttle body and cleaned it out. checked for vac leaks and replaced all hoses. im not sure on a few things though i see there are no adjustments for the tps. when i put it in i had to turn it slighty to make it fit flush. when i did this it idled up really high at start up. then i took it back off and turned it back even more and it started like normal but still had the high idle. i also tried resetting the iac from the procedures found on here even though the were a little vague on how to do it. I could use all the help i can get im losing my mind on this thing.

also another question when you reset the iac and jump the a and b terminals. is the iac supposed to move the plunger all the way out because mine is. also a and b is for checking the engine light too right.

Idling at 1200 rpm is fine. And same with 1k in drive. That's about what mine runs and and my engines perfectly fine. I have a 3.4, which is nearly the same as the 3.1. But yeah, it's all good man, just gotta remember she ain't no 4cyl that idles at 500rpm

Does it only look smokey on startup? Is it constant? I'd have to either say your cat is clogged and is cousing more backpressure which is making your engine work harder (thus, the higher rpm's). Or you could possibly have a bad gasket. But mine idles around 1000 to 1100 rpm in drive. I just assume it's normal since it runs fine.

Re: 92 rs 3.1 idle problems

well ive been messing with it all day i noticed that the vac advance was on all the time when i unplugged the wire up by the air box the idle went down some not much. i re timed it and its still idles high but the vac advance is working correctly. it seems like its like that everytime you reset the computer you always have to take and unplug the wire to make it normal again.
