Re: Celica Intakes
most people run short ram besuace they dont like water sucked in their intake...besides theres slim to no diffrence to the HP between the 2
and im prety sure that the intake from a gt wont work on a gts

Re: Celica Intakes
I doubt it will be able to take a gt-s because there is a 40 hp difference. I don't know about weight, but that is a fair difference. The most an intake will probably give you is 8 hp, 12 if you are very lucky. I personally make intakes and I have found that my short ram is no worse than me CAI, I used. I am gonna go with a short ram, with cold air box, and ram air system.

Re: Celica Intakes
ur gt wont come close to a gts even with a cai. theres not much diff. between a short ram and cold air just go with whatever is cheaper. i dont know who makes them for 7th gens but they shouldnt be hard to find if u search. or you could go to ebay for the cheapest ones. the biggest diffrence is the cone filter u use at the end. i would go with k&n if i were you.

A GT 5speed won't beat a stock GT-S 6speed no matter what kind of mods you do to it N/A.. unless you got into doing custom parts for the engine. The 1zz-fe doesn't respond to mods very well. The head doesn't flow nearly as well as the 2zz-ge head. The 2zz-ge actually out-flows the B18C5 (Integra Type R).
Stage 1 Turbo GT's are barely getting better times than stock GT-S's. If you want a fast GT, go turbo.. it's pretty much your only option.

I just got an intake for my car and I put in and i had some problems. The air sensor that plugs into the pipe fits but the screws don't line up. I got it on but it doesn't fit snug. Once i got it all in i started the car and it wouldn't even go over 2,000 RPM. It Idled at about 20 to 50 RPM. It was really messed up, It made me really mad. So i took all of the parts off and put the stock parts back on and it ran fine. Yeah i was a little mad. I got the Short Ram air off of ebay buy a dealer for 31 dollars. Yeah so i'm going to try and file of a little bit of it off so it fits. I'll try and make it work but if it doesn't i'll try and send it back.

Re: Celica Intakes
Honestly most filters are not much more superior to others. I have ran my car with no filter and then tried a lot of others to compare and they are mostly all pretty close. The sponge filters seem to usually work best for allowing air in. Any filter with a wire caging around cloth seems to be worse because that cage gets hot and then heats all incoming air. With a short ram I would recommend an HKS sponge and with a CAI I would recommend any good cone filter that filters well as you don't want dirt coming in. K&N really are not far superior to me than most any of the cheaper companies. If you want a good filter and are willing to pay go for some of the more expensive authentic filters.

You should have gotten the ebay CAI. It's an exact AEM replica. As for different kinds of filters... The sponge type filters are crap when you are considering filtering properties. They let much much more junk into your engine compared to k&n style filters which are generally the best. I would never put a sponge filter in my car.

Re: Celica Intakes
I don't know if you have a PepBoys Auto parts where you live but they have all the pieces you need to make a custom intake. They have pipes that are 4in, 6in, and 8in long plus pipes with 45 degree or 90 degree bends in them. I made a short ram for about $30 or $40. It works great. Looks nice too. I have some no name brand filter on it right now but plan to get a K&N soon.

Re: Celica Intakes
The sponge filters let more air in and if that is what you want why not use one? They are rated very poorly for filtering out dirt, but some people run without filters. I am not saying it is the best, if you want max air flow though then they will be what you want.

Re: Celica Intakes
some people run w/o filters???? wtf? you mean drag racers? lol!
anyways, I always think of CAI/Shortram as for "sound" only...as a mod, they're as useful as a "muffler-tip-upgrade"....which is...not THAT useful. And I have both of them. Unless getting a Turbo Kit, then it is safer and better to use stock drop-in filter... since the real wheel power difference is insignificant. |

Re: Celica Intakes
a cai will not add but maybe 1-2 hp, and thats not even to the wheels, the only thing a new intake will do is make the engine sound better, and get a minimal change in feul economy, making it better.

Re: Celica Intakes
Intakes also even out torque curves and prevent lugging. It makes sense... with a stock intake the car really has to work usually to get full air through all the piping, so at low rpms when the engine isn't doing full air pull it will lug, with a less restrictive intake you do better all through your powerband. If your car has 140 max hp at 5500 rpms, yet at lift, (e.g. 3250 rpms) it is running 125 hp, with a stock intake. With a nicer aftermarket setup you may only have 142 @ 5500, but at 3250 you might have 135, so the whole torque curve is more even. Phew... that was a lot, oh and about running without filters I know plenty of ricers who do it, and some people who only do it when they seriously race. No filter=no resistance to air. It is just bad for other reasons.
