Unhappy 2000 740iL Dashboard Display Lighting Gradually Disappearing

Lighting for the display showing mileage, outside temperature, date, etc. has been gradually disappearing. Only the date is now visible. I asked another 7 Series owner and he said that he had the problem while his vehicle was under warrantee, and the component was replaced. Has anyone had this problem, and if so what is the fix? What is my expected repair cost?

Might wanna give this a shot...Seems to be working for others. Don't forget to check out the replies at the bottom - They have some additional helpful information. Also, John took that walkthrough and illustrated it here with his '96, which looks slightly different than the 2000 cluster but should still be quite helpful. If you give it a shot tell how it goes. Our display is holding strong so far, but I have a feeling it's only a matter of time...
