Making fiberglass kicks

im making some fiberglass kick panels for my civic. I need to know what kind of screening or cloth i should use. Also any brands on fiberglass itself? Home Depot? This is what im doing: 1. build frame and cutout from MDF. 2. Stretch screen over it. 3. put fiberglass resin on front and back. 4. reinforce back with mesh and auto body filler 5. put filler on front, prime, sand and paint. sound good or do you have any suggestions/advice?

Re: Making fiberglass kicks

1.) you dont use screen, you use fiberglass

2.) all resin is is a bonding agent, usually polyester is used...sometimes epoxy

3.) Bodyfiller has no strength, it does nothing to reenfoce anything. it is exactly what it says, FILLER. to FILL gaps and holes and imperfections.

4.) Fiberglass Mat for the mold of where you are going to put the kick panel. the stuff at Home Depot or Lowes is fine

5.) Polester Resin from home depot or Lowes is fine for audio

6.) Fleece (yes, like your sweater) is what is used to strech over the mold and MDF mounting rings or w/e you use

7.) Mat for reenforcement on the inside or go ahead and do it on the outside, and then cloth if you'd like. Lay cloth so that the patterns are at a 45 degree angle for maximum strength.

8.) you are very confused, google it and contact TheScilentChamber for more information on fiberglassing.

pretty good. sorry i dont have a working cam, but it was much easier then i expected. i just made a single 6.5 speaker opening in each one. they fit right where the stock kicks were, and now my music sounds alot better.

yeah. sanding fiberglass/ filler is a real pain. getting the final product to be smooth is pretty difficult.
