Unhappy 00 civic burns oil

I have a 00 civic w/ a D16Y7 engine (1.6L). I lose about 1 quart every 2000 miles, and I know it doesnt leak. the car has about 100,000 miles & I bought it with 82,000 miles. ever since I got my car I changed the oil with 5W30 synthetic, could this be why I'm burning so much? or could it be the piston rings or the valves? or is 1 quart every 2000 miles acceptable for over 100K miles? The inside of the talipipe is black & dirty, but it doesnt smoke (at least not any visible smoke). can anyone give me advice?

Re: 00 civic burns oil

my 96 civic ex 5spd (96,000 miles) does the same thing. But I noticed if I don't rev it past 4,200 rpms (so the vtec dosen't kick in) it burns no oil. Also I have brought mine to a shop and they said the only thing they could do is motor. I know I didin't answer your problem but if you find out a solution let me know...

Re: 00 civic burns oil

First you need to figure out when the car burns oil...when there is visible smoke (if there is any)

1. IF it burns oil on acceleration, you have excessive blow-by gas passing by the piston rings....bad rings

2. IF the car burns oil on deceleration i.e. when there is a lot of vaccuum, because oil is being pulled through the gap between the valve stem and the valve guide...then the valve guides are worn

d16y7 is a non vtec motor, d16y8 is. i believe it kicks in around 5,500 rpms, unless something is changed.
