1990 S-10 Blazer 4X4 5 Speed Manual Tanny

My 1990 s-10 RPO code show I have a MM5 manual transmission. I am trying to find a replacement but not lucky so far. I heard that other car manufacturers have use this transmission. Is it true? In what car was it used. I'm trying to be conservative here. Rebuilt is to much. Thanks

Don't buy one out of another make.
They might be the same basic transmission, however they susally use different input and output shafts.
And there is a good chance that the bell housing bolt pattern might be different too

Thanks OB. I guessed I'm back to square one. I really would like to try open it myself and check out what's wrong with it.

Tell us what it's doing, we might be able to narrow it down and tell you if you have a good chance to be able to fix it

How close do you live to the Canadian Border?, if you live close to a crossing it might be worth it to look up north for a transmission. They should be duty free, just pay the border tax and get the canadian tax back.
I can probably PM you a few names and phone numbers

Thanks again OB. I am about 3 hours from the Vancouver border. I will try to check out that website you shared. My transmission grinds on first and second gear. After that it will be okay. I also notice after I took it down that there is a play on the main shaft if you try to pull it up and down. But so far if you shift it to first gear and turn it by hand, I don't hear any but the normal sound of two gears turning. But then again this is at no load.
