Question buying a probe

ok so i have some questions for all of you who own a probe or have owned one

i am very very interested in them, and am almost positive that this will be my next car within the next month or two hopefully. my one car now, a 93 mercury tracer, is POS and once i sell that hopefully ill have enough to spend about 2000 to 2500 on a probe. im looking for a decently fast car with good handling(which is why im interested in the probes) for the least amount of money. i want the car to last me atleast through college(im going to be a senior this year in hs) and im 17. i definitly want to get a probe gt model or a 92 turbo probe, but those are really hard to find.
i found what looks like to be a really good deal on a black probe gt for only 1500 and i just called the guy about it. i saw some pics and the car is in really good shape, however it has 139k miles...im kinda concerned about this and i dont want to have to make constant repairs to it, even though i can do it myself and my dads a mechanic for ford. what is your guys experiences with probes with this many miles on them? do you think this is worth it since it has so many miles on it?

also if anyone is selling their probe or know anyone who is, please let me know.

thanks for your help

Re: buying a probe

for the first generation, properly taking care of them and constant oil changes, they can go past 200k. 2nd generation are just as good, but the trannies are something to watch out for, the usually go around 180-200k. I also was looking for a probe for the longest time and know i love my baby. i was also in the your place wheather to get a turbo or a second generation gt. The turbos can be faster but there isn't really anything else other than turbo upgrades, and dont look as great. Get a second generation, you have more fun with it.

Re: buying a probe

thanks alot, this definitly made up my mind...now to find a probe to empty my bank account on lol...but when i do get a probe ill once again be very short on cash because ill have to cut down my working hours while in school, so what mods do you think will increase the power for the least amount of cash...i was thinking of starting with intake and a cat back and then some suspension work
thanks again
