1998 Pontiac grand am se hesitates

I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand am se 4 cylinder. I noticed that when i stop put the brake, then accelerate the car likes hesitates or like it wants to stop, Then i have to press the gas pedal about 2 times and the car goes. Whats the problem?

no eng. light?
possibly minor vacuum leak, or fuel filter, or pressure regulator?...
...how many miles, and when was the last service done?

could be the brake booster checkvalve.

Could be transmission. Take to Auto Zone, they will hook up to computer for free. Get the code, if they cant look it up, call the dealership near you and ask what it is.
Mine was doing the same thing. It wouldn't get up and go, or was very hesitant. Ended up replacing the tranny. The clutches had burned up in mine. Hopefully, that isn't your problem, but I would still take to Auto Zone anyhow.

could also just be the carb/throtle body needs a good cleaning, carbon builds up quick in those 4cylinders. But as others stated could be in the fuel system or the EGR. Many little things could be taken place causing spits and sputters
