'92 Keyless Entry glitch?

Hi guys, my first post and thanks to everyone for any future assistance.

Recently, the remote keyless entry system on my '92 ES300 sporadically started to fail to respond to the transponder button on my key. In the last 10 days the keyless entry system has failed totally to respond to my remote key.

I assumed rather reasonably that it's only a battery issue so today I tried to use my backup key which also has the transponder button. It failed to activate the keyless entry system as well.

In my pottering around today, my primary transponder key DID activate the keyless entry system twice, and twice only.

Question One - if I change the batterys on my remote transponder keys myself, will I lose any special anti-theft code data or anything like that?

Question Two - does the Keyless Entry chip mechanism which is situated in the trunk near the power antenna ever fail in a manner like I've described?

Thanking you all in advance.

Cool

I would take it to the dealer to get the remote batteries change. As the battery wears out, the range on the key get's shorter.

Yes anything man-made can fail, but no, the car mounted units don't fail.

Also, flick the on-off switch for the remote un-lock a few times. Make sure it's not stuck, or in the wrong position.

Thank you sir. You were indeed correct. It seems that both batterys in both transponder keys died at the same time - which is an interesting reflection on battery build quality I feel.

Thankfully, $20 later both transponder keys are working the remote keyless entry system just perfectly.

Thank you once again! Doubtless we'll talk soon.

Kindest Regards.
