New to this part of board

hey guys and gals, friend of the family had a knee opperation a few months back and i drove her car while my s 10 was getting painted and i fell in love with it, and shes alwase hated it. Yesterday she told me i could have the car for 2k, its a 99 sable gs, 24v DOHC with less then 75k miles on it. A/C. PW PDL Tilt Steering, pm, cruze, it is an automatic (can i fix this or is it the only option?) single cd player, just had front end alignment and has brand new tires... not sure what was/is an add on option and what was standard. Being your typical 18 year old kid, this is an awsome winter car (and all around car, gets better mileage then the 88 firebird and soon much better then the 98 s 10) but anything i can do to squeeze a few more miles out of it? Cold air intake? definetly going to the muffler shop.. but b4 i get crazy, is there anything i should know about that likes to go bad on these cars? or am i pretty good in the clear?
