Opinions please...

Hey all...I finally found what I want my Blazer to look like...I have a 2 door just like this one(please look at picture attached to username)...just not as nice, and no hovercraft.

I need everyone's opinions on (1)How much lift do you think this Blazer has, and, (2) What size tires are on it, and (3) Are those American Racing wheels on it?

Anyways, what do you think? The only thing I am worried about is my rust situation. I am afraid I won't get all of it, and after she is painted, she will rust again. That worries me.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well I saw that Blazer picture in another post you made and I thought it was yours. Anyhow, it looks to me like it has about a 3-5 inch lift on it. The tire size or type I am not sure about. Your rust situation can be solved easily. Just happens that although I know little about engines I am a painter. If you want the rust to stay gone then after you prime it get a can of rustolium or an industrial oil enamal based primer. They are rust inhibators. Just lay on about 3 coats in the areas that had the most rust and let it tack up between coats. If you have rust so bad that your metal is flaking off then you really need to get a grinder and get ride of the area and use some bondo. If its a fender just replace the fender. If its your quarter panel then it takes more work but you will need to either trim or replace it. If you are going to use bigger tires and you have lots of rust on most of your fender or quarter panels then just cut them all and put some new chrome trim on them. I can't really tell you a whole lot more without seeing exactly what it looks like.

Re: Opinions please...

Strange...I have been trying to post that pic, but never was able to...you said that you saw it in a post of mine? I wonder which one...anyways.the rust is bubbling on both doors, showing on the bottom of the doors, and eating holes/flaking in the back.

I thought that I could get away with just replacing the wheel well arches, but it looks like I may have to replace the entire quarter panel. I live in an area(PA) that uses alot of salt during the winter, along with chemicals that just eat your car away. I don't know anything about body work, and I don't know if it is even worth the work. Some people say go for it, make it look nice....some people say drive it until it dies. They don't know these Blazers, obviously. Should I order new panels from JC Whitney?

Why spend the money if you plan to paint. Just hit a junk yard and find one with little or no rust. The front fenders are easy to replace the rear quarter panels are not. To make your life easier I would find a junk yard that removes the parts for you. If you can find them with little or no rust and get a good deal get some new doors too. I would actually just take the panel/s to a body shop and have them put the new one/s on. It shouldn't cost to much considering you're only paying labor.

Yeah sorry I been away a few days. It looks to me like you don't have to replace anything. All you need to do is sand, grind, and cut away all the really bad spots. Sand down the non-chrome simi-bad spots. Replace the chrome strips or just polish them up real nice with some mothers. Then after all the sanding and everything is done get some rust resistant primer, rustolium is good, and prime everything you just sanded and grinded. Put on about 3 coats making sure it tacks up between coats. Then get you some bondo and fill in the holes. Bondo is fairly easy to work with. It modles well and when it dries its as hard as rock. I don't know what your quarter panels look like on the other side so you might need to rig something up to hold the bondo in place until it dries well enough to stay put. Once you get the bondo on there sand it down until it is smooth with the rest of the area then prime the hell out of it. I would say 3 coats of primer on that then 3 coats of base followed by two coats of clear coat. Some base paints have clear coat in them. Make sure you hold the can about 4-6 inches away and make a smooth sweeping motion don't try to lay it on to thick because it will just run, especially clear coat. If you plan to get paint work done to it then just prime and send it away for paint. If you have trouble matching paint then there are some places that mix and match paint for you. They make the paint and put it in a small can, you attach a propelant canaster to that can and then spray. I don't know how to explaine them, I buy mine from ACE hardware. Just tell them you need a custom auto paint color mixed up for you. They will mix it up and get you what you need i'm sure. You could even just use a normal exterior oil based paint but it doesn't last as long and its a lot thicker. It isn't made for cars so I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Hope this helps. I could do more if the Blazer were in front of me. Its not a lot of work, its really not hard to do either. You just need to work with it until everything matches good.
