Hi, all. How bad a job is it to replace the crankshaft balancer? Junkyard guy told me they were real hard to get off, so they wouldn't pull one. Loud rattle and clank sound from motor, replaced the water pump and power steering pump, and idler pully before deciding this was the problem. Sure it's not the alt. Motor still runs good, just sounds like a metal thrasher.
Thanx, Jeff |

Re: 1993 Century 3.3 harmonic balancer.
The job isn't as hard as they make it out to be if you have the proper tools. You will need an impact gun to get the bolt off the end of the crank. Remove the belt and then use a puller to remove the balancer. Once you have it off then replace it with another one although you may be wise to purchase a new bolt. The hardest part of the job is getting to the stupid thing.

Re: 1993 Century 3.3 harmonic balancer.
Our mechanic said there is no way to pull balancer except to pry it off. Damaged timing cover in process. our 92 buick stalled and they replaced ignition sensor and crank shaft sensor. This car has 52,000 miles and ran perfect. Son drove it 2 miles after repair and engine seized up . Mechanic has no reason why it happened
