Question 5 speed shifter knob removal

I have just found my old Hurst T knob shifter but i'm having problems with geting the knob off my 02 4.3 5 speed shifter. Any sugestions would be help full.

The whole shifter comes off almost to the top of the tranny. lower the boot and use a wrench to undo the jam nut and it should come loose.

I understand Red Slilvy's question. We manual mixer types who want to change just the knob part of the shifter can't figure out how to get the stock knob off. GM used some kind of super sticky stuff to hold them in place. We don't need the entire shifter loose, just the knob..............

i would get a pair of vise grips and clamp it where you will not see it and try to twist it off, but this will scratch it so make sure it is going to be covered by something.
