How to clean a cat converter

Is it possible to clean a cat converter or do I need to spend money for a new one? If it can be cleaned, what can I clean it with? When I accelerate, it feels like Im towing a dump truck. Upon reading other threads about sluggish accelerations, and the input from the responses, there can be a ton of things that I might need to do to oversome this delima. By the way, its a 2003 GAGT GT1, V6 3400 with about 39,200 miles on it. Tires are aired properly, alittle weight in my trunk from an amp and speaker box, changed fuel filters twice since buying the car, regular oil changes, K&N filter. Thanks in advance.

If its a bad converter, contact your local dealer, I do believe there is an emission warranty for 60k miles or 5 years, and that should cover a cat. If you don't have warranty coverage, replace the cat and get the car checked out, there is a problem casuing the cat to clog up so soon as they should easily last over 100k miles.

Thanks. I was just assuming it might be the cat. I dont know. Just from reading the other posts about crappy acceleration, the replies usually say something about a clogged cat. Thanks again.

mike a 2003 shouldnt need a cat. those converters should last a really long time. a mass air flow sensor , or a the MAP sensor can cause crappy acceleration. a vaccum hose may be loose or off. my 99 GA 3.4 blows a hose off on the back of the engine. the hose that conects to the PVC follow it to the back of the engine, over the throtle body just under(below) the coil packs and look for disconnected hoses. I forget what the heck the name of the part is, but there are three or four lines connected to it. just a few more things you may check out. Good Luck

also converters cant be cleaned well you can break all the catalyst out , but that might be against the law in some states, and you car would run really funning when the O2 sensor reads the rich fuel and lots of CO2o. not enviromently friendly either.
