Low tire pressure warning light 98 Continental

I bought this car used and the previous owners replaced the tires with something other than the run flat tires that this sensor regulates. There is proper tire pressure but the light will not go off. How do I bypass this until I replace the tires, which will not be for some time?

I getting the general consensus that the warning system may be controlled through your Radio console.

Reference shows the instruction to operate and/or disable the system is in your owners manual.

There's almost always a few of these offered around eBay.

I have the 1996 manual. Didn't even think of looking in there since this thread referenced 1998 -- I'll hav a look and reply.

PS Would you like a CD copy of my 1996 manuals? Their about $5~10 on eBay every day.

I have the 96 Continental owners manual that came with the car, but it dosen't say anything about turning it off. If you have one that says anything about it let me know and I'll see if I can find one .

Now I'm reading some additional information. In 1996 (that's where I have the ability to read) the Low Pressure Sensor is inside the wheel, and it's a Transmitter. Four of these Transmitters are mounted, one inside each wheel, which monitor nothing but tire (air) pressure, regardless of what type of tire is mounted.

If the transmitter isn't sending data, it's either damaged or removed.

The "Securitire Tire" has the properties to be driven flat for some specified distance (about 20 miles) however, it has no effect on the Low Tire Pressure Warning System.

There's very specific tire dismounting/mounting instructions provided to prevent an installer from damaging the Transmitters. If the instruction isn't followed to the T, damage will result.

Like you folks, I don't see a procedure for disabling the Low Tire Pressure Warning System however, there is reference to:

• Removing Low Tire Pressure Warning System Module
• Removing/Changing Low Tire Pressure Warning Light Bulb

Some or all of these procedures should answer any further questions you may have, and aid you in temporarilly disabling the system. If it were me, I'd just remove the bulb.

1. Disengage and lower (do not remove) console finish panel from roof console.

2. Twist and pull bulb socket from bulb housing.

3. Remove miniature bulb from bulb socket.

4. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

Removal and Installation

1. Disengage and lower (do not remove) console panel finish panel from roof console.


2. Disconnect wire harness connector. Remove two retaining screws and low tire pressure module from roof console.

That answeres my question. Thanks for the info. I'll try it. My sensors work fine. I'm just going to be using different tires and wheels and don't want to continually get a low pressure waring. Thanks again
