Come on Guys!!! I need some help here!!!
Hi, need some advice again. I have a 97 Voyager. Noise is progressively getting worse in right front wheel. Only noticeable when backing up with wheels turned to the right. What do I have there that would be creating these noises?
What is there? Ball joints? Universal? Drive shaft? How big of a job would it be to repair it myself? Thanks for any advice. |

Re: Come on Guys!!! I need some help here!!!
All of the items you mentioned and the brakes also. The problem you describe sounds like a bad CV joint on the axle shaft. Do you have a vibration or other signs when the car is moving forward? A ball joint is possible but you should see tire wear signs if that were the case. I would also check the front strut as the mounts often go bad. Finally, check the sway bar. They can break or the mounts can go bad. Hope this helps!
As for changing this stuff yourself if you have an assortment of hand tools you should be able to change everything. You will also need jack stands to properly support the vehicle. |

Front end problems
Yes, there is a vibration between 80 & 85 then it smooths out at 90 & higher.
Any ball park figure as to how much it would cost to have it done? Thanks for your help. I new someone on this forum would come up with an answer. This is one of the best forums on the internet. Ives |

You should be able to get it fixed for less than $300 depending on the labor rate. These shafts are not nearly as expensive as they once were. You can get a guaranteed reman unit for less than $100 with exchange. So the cost of replacement shouldn't be too bad.

Front end noise.
I bought a rebuilt half axle with both boots for $50. It took about a half a day to for me to install it. I think I had to buy a couple of metric sockets too. I don't remember it as being too bad a job, and a whole lot easier than other jobs I've had to do on my Caravan, like struts, in-tank fuel pump, ball joints, strut and pivot bushings on the lower control arms, and steering rack and pinion gear.
