How to check tranny fluid on 97 cutless

i bought this car the first day of march... Damn auto lot didnt give me an owners manual. Im not to familiar with oldmobile nor much gm cars at all.
Anyways iv looked for ever trying to find a dip stick to check my tranny fluid. I heard that i have to take it in to get it checked.... i hope thats not true can anyone help me out..

remember its a 97 oldsmobile cutless

as long as it is a automatic it should be against the firewall driverside and say transmission fluid on it ,,if it is a stcik shift then you have to access it from underneath the vehicle

Its on the side of the fire wall, true that, just look for a red dipstick. o and Shift stick? on a 97?

dipstick?

Nope GM was so wonderful to include everything but a dipstick for the tranny. Yes you may have to take it in, I have 98 Cutlass., same thing. There is a red screw out plug located under the air inlet tube from the mass air flow tube going to the intake. Thats were you fill it. I'd like to check mine also but never bothered with it yet. If anyone knows how to check it, let us know please.

wow, my friends malibu had the same red cap under the air inlet. I was sure it had a dipstick, guess i was wrong, and the 4th gen 3100 didnt have one, 95 and up

Just a thought ,,can you take a dipstick from a real trans lol and check your fluids that way then put your plug back in?? what an assinine thing to do lol,,no dipstick!!

no dip sticks here. under the car on the bac of the tranny is a bolt you unscrew, like rear ends in a rear wheel drive, if it runns out its full also some have an oval eyelet to read. So if you can jack the Whole car up level you can check it, if not you can take it to a stupid oil change shop they'll usually check for free.
