Electrical ? Problem...need help badly
Ok, here's my problem. As soon as my 2000 cavalier gets a little warm, it will idle OK, but as soon as you touch the gas pedal, it will sputter and eventually stall. If you catch the car on a good day, it will stutter it's way to about 3000 rpms and then fall back down and stall. It will drive until the temp is half of the usual running temp. When the car is cold, it will run like a champ.
I have replaced the MAP sensor, Ignition Module, Coils, and plugs. Less than 3 months ago i replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulator. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks! -Joe |

Re: Electrical ? Problem...need help badly
2000's aren't exactly my forte; but it seems to me you might have a Throttle Position Sensor that returns errant data. The TPS may be faulty; or the wiring might need a close inspection and corrected routing if some part of the wire shielding is melted away and causing contact with some metal part. The computer could be trying to make sense of a normal fuel mix suddenly going from very rich to very lean, and will shut down the fuel supply when a certain temp is reached with the lean signal predominating. Are you seeing any strange smokes coming from the pipe? Black=too lean.

Well, the fuel pump ended up giving me like 10 PSI of fuel pressure. So i changed that out, and i drove for like 60 miles and then all of a sudden, the same symptoms are back. any more ideas?

Re: Electrical ? Problem...need help badly
It does appear to be a TPS gone bad. These things can easily be diagnosed with an ohmmeter, even while onboard and disconnected. simply treat the unit like any turn type volume control, and look for a smooth response over it's range of adjustment.

Re: Electrical ? Problem...need help badly
Could be EGR if the cars idle rises and falls suddenly...
