fuse after fuse after fuse after fuse after fuse
if you know electronics, then this thread is for you!!
first off, i've only blown 2 fuses.. but i can't figure out why so i think if i keep working on my lights, it'll just keep happening. i'm no electronics brainiac but i really can't figure out whats wrong with what i'm doing. the headlights i bought have 4 wires coming out of them, one of which is marked as ground, and the other ground wasn't but it was easy to figure out which one it is. the other two are obviously positive, and i've marked which ground goes with which ground and same with the positives. there are two individual lights in each assembly and thats why there's 4 wires. SO what i did was take out my old ones, and installed everything that came with the package, but only one out of the two lights in each assembly would light up, so i decided to just wire them into the original headlight wiring.. so what i then did was cut off the harness/plug/monstrosity that the 3 stock headlight wires were attached to and spliced all three. i then thought, well, one of these wires is negative but all three are red. so then my journey began to find the negative wire. i had gone through all the combinations with the driver's side light and nothing seemed to work, so i switched to the passenger's side for shits and giggles and through the inevitable trial and error routine, i found that the red wire with the white stripe was the negative wire (both ground wires would attach to), the red wire with the blue stripe was low beam and the red wire with the green stripe is the high beam. are we following? good so it turns out that the wire combinations worked, but not together. cause when i turn the headlights on, the low beam should come on (and it did), then when i turn the brights on, the low beam should either stay on or go off (doesn't matter in this situation) and the brights should come on.. but when i hooked the lights up (2 wires out of the lights to single ground, low beam out of the lights to single blue, high beam out of the lights to single green) only the headlights turned on, and when i flicked the brights, they wouldn't come on but the low beams stayed on. so i tried hooking them up individually one at a time and they worked that way, but when i hooked them up all together again (2 wires out of the lights to single ground, low beam out of the lights to single blue, high beam out of the lights to single green) i blew the headlight fuse. so i replaced it after looking around for 10 minutes trying to figure out why nothing would work and tried all the wiring again. finally, i got the right combo and put all the wires together again (2 wires out of the lights to single ground, low beam out of the lights to single blue, high beam out of the lights to single green) and WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!!!?!? another blown fuse.. so after that i knew not to try the wiring again but the weird thing is that it was only happening on the passenger's side.. i never found the ground wire on the driver's side and the fuse is fine.. does anybody know if the headlight wiring is the same on both sides?? is there something i'm missing??? should i check more fuses? if yes, where in the damn car would they be?? should i look at fuse amps and see if there's too much or not enough restriction?? i'm just as blown away as anybody who reads this whole thing but i wanna figure it out so i can drive at night and not worry about hitting a parked car!!

Re: fuse after fuse after fuse after fuse after fuse
not many people have done that mod here, but ive been through it, so i might be able to help
i too hacked off the stock headlight plug, and wired one light to the normal beams, and one light to the high beams, and because i wanted them all on at the same time, i went to the headlight switch on the steering column, took the cover off, and using my digital voltmeter and some wire, made a jumper from the parking light power to the brights power. this means that when i turn the parking lights on (one click on the light twisty thingy), the brights and parking lights come on, but their really just amber fog lights that go nicely, because their yellow. then when i turn the twisty clicky thingy to full light, the other two come on, which are my normal night lights. as for the "cant find the wires" thing with your driver side, im not sure what you mean, the wires are the same for both sides, and you can just use an electronic testor, or a digital multimeter to figure out which is which. just turn the lights full on, then go to the cut wires and touch the red lead of the multimeter to one of the three wires, and put the black lead of the multimeter to a body ground. which ever wire shows a signal is the low beam wire, then do the same but with the brights on, and the remaining wire is the ground. the only cause for the fuses might be that you mistakenly grounded a hot wire or something.
